A Christmas Story- When Your A Wimp
The outdoor gear is in full view in this number and let me tell you it was no easy task to make sure every kid had their hat, mittens, and scarf! We sewed the scarfs onto their jackets to help a little! Here comes Randy in his ridiculously large snowsuit! First time we see Grover Dill and Scut Farkus. Our Grover Dill was played by a girl so we had to give her a wig. The Narrator, Schwartz (in the blue jacket with toggles), and Flick (in the plaid jacket). I found vintage patterns on etsy and eBay to make the plaid jacket. Dancing with lots of winter…

Sound of Music- Curtain Costumes
I found the material in the clearance outdoor fabric section of Joann’s in early March and thanks to the lovely ladies who work at Joann’s they found more for me at other stores and had it shipped to South Burlington! They found me enough so we could make the actual curtains, 7 costumes and have extra if other theater companies want to make or fix what we have. The fabric had pineapples on it which I tried to put in the middle of all the girls costumes. I started with Gretel’s costume, a jumper. Here it is before I scrunched up the bottoms to make them look more like bloomers.…

A Christmas Story- Red Ryder Carbine Action BB Gun
The town made it to Higgbee’s to look at the window and Ralphie sees the Red Ryder Carbine Action BB Gun- We enter his imagination. Meanwhile, we had to quickly get Jean into his red ryder costume so he could hand Ralphie his gun. I found the fabric for the “chaps” at this amazing fabric store in New Jersey over the summer. Sometimes things just work out, and I had just enough fabric for Jean’s chaps and Ralphie’s chaps! (We see his in Ralphie to the Rescue) The vest was made from red velvet fabric and sparkly red/silver fringe I bought from the same school. This song sets up the…

A Christmas Story- Overture and It All Comes Down to Christmas
In the Fall of 2017 I had the honor to be the costume designer for Lyric Theater Company’s A Christmas Story When I took the position I had no idea that the best part would be that Ronnie, my son, would be cast as Ralphie. It was so special and magical for us to share this amazing experience together! The show was quite the costume undertaking with the 12 children in the cast having 7 costumes each that included many quick changes, outdoor gear, tap shoes that needed to be hushed, and so much more. Here is how the amazing costume goddesses at Lyric helped me pull it off! Act…

Cabaret
This summer I worked on three shows for the the Flynn Summer Youth Theater. Honk, Cabaret, and Xanadu! Cabaret was show number 2 and the most emotional due to it’s content. The directors and teenagers hit it out of the park and there was not a dry eye in the audiences for each performance. Here are the costume designs. (I credit Owen Leavey for photos and Cole Patno Schyler Forest as my costume assistants for the show and many other people who helped along the way) Kit Kat Club dancers: They all wore the same black vest and same black shorts. The had on different types of lace/fish net stockings.…
